Monday’s Moment: Wedding…the new into the old. March 4, 2013

This photo of John’s has always been one of my favorites.  I absolutely love it.  At first glance, it is, at its worst, very easy on the eyes.  (Like most of his work) (I’m not biased, promise.) But the reason I value it goes much deeper than that.  It’s allegorical nature is what draws me to it.  It oozes allegory.  On the left stand two young lovers…newly bound in marriage.  On the right stands an olive tree, very clearly aged and established.  (I stand corrected if it’s not an olive.)  One new, one old.  One at it’s beginning, one rooted by time.  And, the bridge.  Oh, the allegory gets thicker.  I could go on and on about the bridge.  Basically, I see it as the tool the couple will use to get from being the newly weds they are to the long-married lovers they long to become.  I know, I’ll stop.  I could keep going but I’ll spare you.  John’s photography tells stories and for that I am really grateful.  When I can take the time I love diving into them.  It is definitely one of the perks of being married to a photographer who doesn’t just “take pictures” but “captures moments”.  And one of the perks of having him take your photos for your special day is that he’ll share his gift with you.  Trust me, you won’t be disappointed.
