Ordination of Bishop Timothy Freyer: St. Columban Catholic Church January 19, 2017

Two weeks ago I was asked to photograph the Ordination of Fr. Timothy Freyer at St. Columban Catholic Church in Garden Grove, CA.  Fr. Timothy was a local priest out of Huntington Beach, CA and on January 17th, 2017 he was ordained  Auxiliary Bishop to Bishop Kevin Vann in the Diocese of Orange.

The liturgy was beautiful and the Church was packed with bishops, priests, and the lay faithful witnessing and celebrating this incredible moment.

Three things stuck out for me the most and I will never forget them.

  1. I was able to witness something that has been happening within the Church for over 2,000 years.  Not many people get to witness an episcopal ordination, which is the fullness of the sacrament of Holy Orders.  I feel incredibly privileged to have been a part of it.
  2. As a young boy, after his mother was instrumental in evangelizing his father to the faith, his father was stricken with cancer.  Fr. Freyer found his vocation to the priesthood through his father’s suffering and his own passion to help those in need.
  3. “Go and make disciples of all nations!” proclaimed Bishop Freyer

Here a few shots from the day!  Enjoy!
